The town of Siglufjörður is the venue for the annual Folk Music Festival, a gathering which aims to highlight the diversity of folk music from different nations and cultures. Music from all around the world is performed alongside traditional Icelandic music. At the same time, children and adults can attend special courses on music, dance and handicrafts. The tenth Folk Music Festival, held 1–5 July 2009, was the most well-attended to date. A dozen concerts were played to packed houses in glorious weather. The Festival is one of Iceland’s most popular musical events, and it has become a permanent fixture in the musical calendar.
